International cooperation is being developed on various grounds. Institute staff have been, from the very beginning of it's activities, involved in the work of the International Commission for Scientific Research of the Mediterranean (CIESMM). Vice President of CIESMM is always recruited from scientific workers of the Institute, and on many occasions, they were the presidents and deputies of various committees. Also, since the establishment of appropriate organizations, the Institute is cooperating with various United Nations agencies.
These are the General Fisheries Council for the Mediterranean (GFCM), Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). Bilateral cooperation exists in various projects and with the following countries: Italy, USA, Greece and Poland.
